Soul Surplus Samples: Queen & Slim [Soundtrack]

Last Wednesday, the Lena-Waithe-produced film Queen And Slim was released in theaters to much critical acclaim and praise.  I personally was so much of a fan of the movie, I saw it twice.  The first time I went (by myself. and a pretty inexpensive Saturday morning matinee I might add) I left during the initial credit roll.  The second time, I went along with a friend and did my best not to spoil the heart-wrenching ending.  I almost left early again, but decided to stay a little bit longer for the credits.  It was then that I heard the initial few notes of Lil Baby’s “Catch The Sun”.

“Wait… that’s me!” I excitedly proclaimed to my friend, who also happens to be a fan of Lil Baby.

The track was produced by Hitboy and features our signature tape-saturated electric guitar sound atop some heavy 808’s, all providing a great bed for Lil Baby’s melodic and catchy vocals. I highly suggest seeing the film (maybe twice), and seeing staying for the credits! Check out the trailer for Queen & Slim below.
