Product Review: Soul Surplus “A Trap Jawn Volume 1”

Here at Soul Surplus we are excited about the release of the first installment in our newest product series, “A Trap Jawn Vol 1”. We packed this product full of ten compositions with 70 plus sounds, made specifically for easy drag and drop into your sessions. We especially try to take the thinking out of making music with this pack; We’re producers first and we know what it’s like creating hard hitting trap beats--you just want to catch a vibe quick! This pack achieves just that with all royalty-free sounds that are ready to be flipped.

“For producers by producers” is the motto we live by. We know we have established ourselves as a boutique soul sample composition store, but we pride ourselves in giving our customers and supporters a diverse range of products, while all the while staying true to the feel and textures that we are known for (the Philly slang namesake is a nod to it) . Within the “A Trap Jawn Vol 1” pack we give plenty of variations of sounds and textures that are song starters and finishers! If you’re about maximizing your dollar and getting the most for your money then you should purchase the stems as you’ll receive more than 6 times the products! Many know that sometimes making trap only calls for that one synth line or bell that will set a track off!

We know trap has its sweet spot with BPMs, The 130’s to 150’s and everything in half, between and beyond we know that the feel is in the cadence. We are grateful to have a diverse team of producers here at Soul Surplus that literally have backgrounds in and cover the spectrum of Hip Hop. Again we are musicians who love our analog gear to make soul and more complex compositions, but we also use that same feel and our instruments to create basic hard hitting loops for different hip hop artists. So yes we have soul, but trap is very near and dear to us. From more melodic approaches like Kendrick tracks, to really straight forward and basic ATL style trap we tried to have different aspects of this sub-genre represented. We know trap is diverse within itself and we really love it all.

Sampling is so important still in hip hop and many of the “trap” hits out today are literally just drums and a sample. Usually these samples are required to carry the song in so many ways due to the minimalism of the tracks. Melodically, filling space with texture, accenting tempo and cadence, the list goes on when thinking of the function of these elements.

We know how it is in the studio: It's about catching the vibe and not losing the moment.
